Questions

Is it free to convert Word documents to PDF?

Yes. No sign-up and no watermark. The free plan converts up to 10 files a day; Pro removes the limit.

Do you upload my files?

No. LibreOffice, the open-source office suite, runs inside your browser as WebAssembly, so your file is read and converted on your device. The only download is the engine itself, the first time you use it.

Why is the first conversion slower?

The Office engine is a full copy of LibreOffice, about 80 MB. Your browser downloads it once and keeps it, so later conversions start in a few seconds.

Does it work on my phone?

It works in recent Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. The engine needs about 1 GB of memory, so older or low-memory phones may not manage it. A computer is the most reliable.

Can I convert password-protected files?

Not yet. Open the file in Word, Excel or PowerPoint, remove the password (File › Info › Protect), save a copy and convert that. To lock the PDF afterwards, use Protect PDF.

Will the PDF look the same as in Word?

Very close. LibreOffice lays out the pages, tables, images, headers, footers and footnotes. Calibri, Cambria, Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New are replaced by fonts with the same letter widths (Carlito, Caladea and Liberation), so lines and pages break in the same places. Fonts we do not have, such as some brand fonts, are swapped for a similar one. This tool is in beta.

Does it work with Hindi documents?

Yes. Unicode Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Odia text is printed with Noto fonts. Documents typed in old non-Unicode fonts such as Kruti Dev only look right with that font installed, so convert them to Unicode first.
