Questions

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the photo format iPhones use by default since iOS 11. It is smaller than JPG, but many apps, Windows PCs and upload forms do not accept it.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. We read the HEIC file in your browser and use your device’s own HEVC decoder to turn it into a JPG. Nothing is sent to a server.

Which browsers can convert HEIC?

Safari on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and Chrome or Edge on most phones and computers from the last few years. If your browser cannot decode HEIC, we tell you; try Safari or Chrome instead.

How do I stop my iPhone from taking HEIC photos?

Open Settings › Camera › Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be JPG. Existing HEIC photos still need converting.

Is the quality the same?

Yes. We convert at full resolution with 92% JPG quality by default, which looks the same as the original. Choose Maximum for 100%.
