Questions

How is this different from resizing?

Normal resizing stretches the pixels, so a small photo just gets blurry. The AI model (Real-ESRGAN) sharpens edges and adds plausible texture as it enlarges.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The AI model (4.9 MB) and its engine are downloaded once to your browser and run on your device. Your image never leaves it.

How big can the image be?

In browsers with WebGPU (recent Chrome and Edge), up to 1 megapixel for 4× (1000×1000 px becomes 4000×4000) and 2 megapixels for 2×. Elsewhere the processor does the work, so the limits are 0.4 and 0.6 megapixels. Small images benefit most anyway.

How long does it take?

With a graphics chip (WebGPU) a 500×600 px photo takes about 2 seconds on a laptop. Without it, about 15 seconds, and longer on older phones. You can watch the progress.

Can it fix any photo?

It works best on mildly soft or small images. It cannot recover a face or text that was never captured, and it may smooth some textures. This tool is in beta.
